Season’s Greeting from Confiance Wealth & Advisory

Reflections on a Year That Didn’t Quite Go to Plan

As this year draws to a close, many of us find ourselves reflecting not only on what we achieved, but on what did not quite work out the way we had anticipated.

Life has a way of doing that.

I am writing this from beautiful Arniston, the place that makes me feel whole. It is where I take my year end breathing space, alongside Jess, my dad, and Bailey and Charlie, our two miniature dachshunds. There is something about the rhythm of the ocean and the simplicity of life here that creates perspective and reminds me of what truly matters.

Plans change. Families find themselves in different places. People we wish were around the table sometimes are not. And the neat timelines we once held onto quietly unravel into something far more complex and far more human.

This year, my own family will not all be together for Christmas. My sister and brother-in-law are in Rotterdam, along with my nephews and my favourite niece, Golden Retriever Rosie, having come through a particularly tough year. My own year has also been one of transition. A season of flux, reinvention and letting go of assumptions about how things were supposed to look.

And yet, despite all of that, I find myself deeply grateful.

Grateful for resilience.
Grateful for health.
Grateful for relationships that endure distance, stress and uncertainty.
Grateful for the quiet strength that emerges when plans fall apart and we are forced to rebuild, sometimes differently and often better.

One of the most important lessons this year taught me was the value of keeping things simple.

When life feels uncertain, complexity can creep in. In our finances, our expectations and our thinking. Stripping things back to what truly matters has been grounding. Fewer assumptions. Clearer priorities. Decisions rooted in what supports real life, rather than what looks impressive on paper.

There is also much to celebrate.

This year saw the formal launch of Confiance Wealth & Advisory, together with the granting of my Category 1 license, just in time for Christmas! A milestone that represents not only a professional achievement, but a deeply personal one. It reflects years of experience, resilience and belief in building something thoughtful, independent and values driven.

On a far more important note, I am immensely proud of Jess and the young woman she continues to grow into. Watching her navigate her own milestones has been a reminder that progress does not always shout. Sometimes it simply shows up quietly, day by day.

There is a tendency at this time of year to measure success by milestones. Financial targets met. Boxes ticked. Plans executed. But perhaps the truer measure is something softer and more meaningful.

What did we learn
What did we survive
Who did we show up for
And what are we quietly proud of, even if the year did not look impressive on paper

At Confiance Wealth & Advisory, we believe that wealth is about far more than numbers. It is about stewardship, legacy and the ability to make thoughtful decisions even when life feels uncertain. It is about creating financial security that supports real lives, with all their messiness, emotion and unpredictability.

This year has been a reminder that financial planning is not about predicting the future perfectly. It is about building resilience into your life so that when change comes, as it inevitably does, you are able to adapt, protect what matters most and move forward with confidence.

As we head into a new year, my hope is not for perfection, but for perspective.
For clarity over control.
For connection over comparison.
And for the courage to keep going, even when the path ahead is not fully visible yet.

Sitting here, with the sound of birds chirping, the ocean nearby and a slower pace to the days, I am reminded that wealth, in its truest form, is often found in moments like these.

I look forward to reconnecting, to meaningful conversations and to a year ahead filled with opportunity, clarity and purpose. Here is to a cracker 2026.

To those celebrating with loved ones close by and to those holding family in their hearts from afar, I wish you a festive season filled with warmth, rest and moments that remind you of what truly matters.

From my family to yours,
Season’s greetings and every good wish for the year ahead.
